Default Question for the pro's

Hey guys, I have a noob question for you...

I see a lot of you doing the 50/50 shots, where you separate a panel with a piece of tape, do only 1/2 the panel, then take a shot to show the quality of your work. Now, here is my question. It is my understanding that polish removes clearcoat...a very thin layer, but some nonetheless. So, when you want to finish the OTHER 50% of said panel, you go BACK over that original tapeline, and into the FINISHED part of the panel. Seems like you are polishing the same area twice. Doesn't that unnecessary clear coat removal hurt anything?

you don't go into the already polished part at all. you just take the tape off and polish that area along with anything else you haven't polished yet

We are talking only a few microns of removal so it's not a big deal to go back over the line.

Are you using a PC? If so, it takes quite a bit of time to burn the clear coat so your in the clear if you pass over the line.

I have noticed a visible line from difference of clearcoat levels, so you definitely would have to go over the line again to level it back out.
