Default Refitting steering wheel leather

My steering wheel's leather has gotten worn out and I'm thinking of having the steering wheel's leather refitted. I had no problem with finding shops or material for black leather. My problem, however, is that I can't find any shop who offers dimpled leather. They do offer perforated leather, but the perforations are significantly larger and farther apart than the dimpled leather on the steering wheel.

Can anyone help with finding suppliers of dimpled leather? Any help will be appreciated.

My goal is to retain the appearance of the OEM AP1 steering wheel. I doubt that I'm the first to be in this situation, but the forums' search not making easy.

Thanks for the heads up on the thread Wanabe...

I believe you mean a heavier grain in the leather when you say "dimples". As for the perforations, you can take just about any leather and get it perforated the way you want, there are companies that just perforate leather and materials all day long.

The other option would be to just refinish the wheel. It would restore the finish and the sheen. It could be a viable option if the leather isn't already too trashed.

PM me with the specs of what you need and I will do what I can to help.

Thanks for the quick replies

2002S2K,
let me start by stating that I'm not an expert on leather. It feel that the terms perforated and dimpled are used interchangeably by many people, but I used them to describe two different leather finishes.

By dimpled (let's call this leather finish 1), I meant something like this:

The markings on the leather have a smaller diameter and do not completely pierce through the leather surface. They're also close to each other (i.e. more markings in a square inch). The same kind of finish is available on MY2003 steering wheel and shift knob.

And by perforated (let's call this leather finish 2), I was referring to the finish available of the OEM seats (below the headrest and between the shoulder pieces), the piercings are of larger diameter, and penetrate through the thickness of the leather. the distance between the perforations is also farther apart.

I was able to find (leather finish 2) at all automotive leather shops, but it's (leather finish 1) that I'm looking for and cannot find.

I gotcha...been a while since I had my '02

You can get the leather perforated any way you want, its just a matter of it being cost effective, I will call the company we use on Monday, see what they would charge for a small amount like this.
