removing brake dust
Like the topic says, I have heavy break dust that won't budge, I know it's not good to use brillo or steel brushes because they'll scratch or take off the clear coat of the rim so what can I do to get it off, there is a heavy yellow stain to the rim????
best if the wheels are off the car:

i would go for the normal procedures, then evaluate while in the process- sounds like car shampoo wont work for you. some good choices are sonus wheel cleaner or p21s wheel cleaner. if the wheels have been rinsed and sat wet for a few minutes, spray they with one of these cleaners- let it sit for a minute... then brush. that should do it- if not, but it is making progress, then do it again.
if still no progress, you gotta go acid based (my least fav). most important points about acid based cleaners is :
1. keep em off of anything that they dont need to be on- which is one reason that doing the wheels off the car is best
2. do not let them dry on the wheel no matter what. this will etch the wheel.
3. spray on a wet wheel, let it sit for a very short time, then brush. rinse and repeat if you have to. be sure to rinse really well.
final step for either process is rewaxing - synthetics do best to protect the wheels.
