Default Repainting OEM Wheels, any peeling?

Has anyone repainted their OEM wheels and had the paint peel? I have repainted other painted wheels but not the OEM Honda ones. I have seen quite a few repainted but would like to know how long the paint lasted before chipping or peeling. Thanks in advance.

I had them powdercoated and they were super hard, very durable. Regular paint will be easier to chip and flake, but it all depends on how much prep work is done ahead of time. Getting the Honda clear coat off the wheels with proper sanding is very important along with a good primer, basecoat and clear. If it was mine I'd get the wheels bead blasted then painted.

I cleaned and painted my rims (write up or something somewhere on this site) I ran them that color through most of the summer with no issues. All about prep and care to keep the finish nice... I now sport a set of brake dust colored powder coated rims, those are nice and hard...

Like, the rubberized coating? I've never heard of doing that on wheels. I've had trouble with it sticking on sanded aluminum, I don't know how it would hold up on clearcoated wheels.

Very true. I have painted my rims two colors. Charcoal Metalic Silver and Sunburst Gold.
They both lasted me about a good 7 months before I saw clear going away, then paint chippings.

Sanding with hand works. 800 grit, 1000 grit the surface and pass your hand on the inside too. Then Prime. Then Paint. Then use some clear. This cost me 26$ each time I changed the color =)

Most people look up close and think I payed 100. They is dumb because I think my work sucked. lol.

Best bang for buck, sand blasting!

I spent 4 hours not counting drying times A PIECE on my wheels and they are peeling anyway and started chipping after only 3 months. I: sanded(a lot), self etching primer, high build primer, chassis black base coat, graphite duplicolor top coat, duplicolor clearocat. Long story short, DO NOT PAINT THEM. Spend the extra and powdercoat them.
