Default Rough Paint!

Ok try to make a long story short here, about a year ago my car was in a hail storm and the whole car got repainted. Well at the time my ex and i were apart and while i was at work she picked the car up from the shop before i ever got a chance to look at it. Well she kept the car for about a year and maybe put 1500 miles on it.(her name was on the title) Well i now have my baby back!! 01 spa, I havent had time to do much but wash it and get it in the garage for storage. I hate winter!! Any ways i did notice that the finish is really rough!! It shines really good but if feels rough to the touch not smooth. Now im not sure if my ex ever waxed after the new paint job. She said she did but who knows. DO u guys think it just needs a good clay bar and wax job to make the paint smooth again. I cant stand touching the car i miss the smooth feeling. I wont be able to clay and wax it till this spring. Its sitting in the garage under a cover right now.. its just bothering me knowing my car feels like a really really find sand paper!!

What can i do?

Josh

Could be that she didn't wash the car for the whole year until you came to pick it up. In that case a good claybar, polish and wax ought to do it. You really don't want me to tell you what the other possibility could be.

I should have said "possibilities" It really could be a bunch of things. I'd need to see it.

If it's not just surface crap it could be contamination by dust or some other particulate during painting.

i would use a dual action polisher or rotary with a good compound, then clay afterwards to pick up any fine, fine particles left over from the compound work.. then a pre sealant , and then a sealant that will give a soft smooth slick finish.. upp, wolfgang, zaino (but only really feel it the next day) and optimum car wax..

No clay before heavy polishing, simon?
I've skipped it before (as the polishing picks up that crap) but always worry about that particulate getting picked up and ground into the paint...
