Talking Rust on S2000 Rims

Hi everyone. Still a noobie to this site. I have some rust spots on my rims, better description would be specifically on the inner curves of the rims. Its not that much rust but I heard somewhere that OEM wheels were prone to this sort of thing. Is there any way I could buff these spots with my dremel and a soft buffer attachment and if not what can I do to prevent it from getting worse. I plan on getting new rims and tires as soon as I can pay off the loan I took to get the S2k...most likely that wont be for a while. BTW the car is always garage kept and I will soon be getting a quality car cover to protect it further. Great site as well, very informative and you guys and ladies really have some beautiful rides! Thanks in advance for any help you could offer! -Chris

my only advice is soap, heavy duty brush, some crazy dirt remover solution and about 5 hours of your time

chris- welcome to our board (your board too, and the danger of hanging around here is that you could easily become one of us)!!

your wheels are clearcoated... so a dremel would be my last choice- it will remove the clear coat.

got pics?
is the rust from the rotors (bleeding and collecting on the wheels), or actually from the wheels (can you see any damage to the wheel surface)?

------

btw, our rust removal thread, from our how - tos at the top of our board
(caution is the same with naval jelly- it can damage clearcoat- but if you have real rust from the wheels, you clear has been compromised already):

I would sand it down as best as you could and not worry about the clear. Just re-clear the whole wheel with spray can type stuff you can get from autozone, pepboys etc... They are only ap1 rims...

maybe even a dip in some acid wash or something

then re-clear cloat and wax the entire rim while they are off the car to make easier to clean in the future.

Not sure how bad the "rust" is... my winter tires on AP1 OEM wheels had something very similar to what your describing. I used detailing clay (clay bar)and some elbow grease , it came off. Good luck!

Turtle wax makes some crazy ass rim cleaner. Bought it for my moms car, and was so impressed, I used it on the S, and it took a MAJORITY of the stuff off without even touching them. I Then did a follow up spray, with a brush, and got near perfect results. Was truely impressed... Comes in an orange colored bottle, Called Turtle Wax Rim Cleaner.
