Default Scratch Problem

Hey all! I ahve some unfortunate news that I must share and needs answering. A while back I got a scratch on the back bumper by hitting a garbage can when backing the car into the garage. I tried touch up paint and that worked on the very fine layer of scratch but the area where you can see black, it is so deep, it didn't work on. Now it the paint around the black area is peeling right off the bumper! Of course it looks like a total eye sore and needs to be repaired. My question is am I going to have to repaint the entire bumper or can I get a shop to airbrush some paint in or whatever they do. It isn't really big but maybe a skinny scratch ranging about 2 inches long if that. I also have a couple other scratches around the car that cannot be "touch up" painted. So would airbrushing be a good idea or just getting it repainted? How much will the whole thing cost to get painted (high quality paint) and just to get it airbrushed?

Thanks again!

Regards,
Jonathan

without seeing it, cant tell for sure, but it sounds like a paint crack to me.
if so, the only repair is a repaint (of at least that area)... prob the cost is about the same to repaint a small area as it is to do the whole bumper.

GRRRRRRR!!! SAME SHIT HAPPENED TO ME TODAY!!!

my scratch is exactly like u described but its probably a bit bigger. Theres a lot of minor scratches and 1 area where black is visible and the paint around it peeling.

so wanabe ur saying repainting that small (1-2 inch) area would cost the same to repaint the whole entire back bumper??? damn....

Is there a alternative way??

to get it done "right" (so you cant tell) would most likely require a repaint...
if you will plan to do this, there would be no harm in trying to touch it up-
almost impossible to touch-up a scratch that is to the metal so it doesnt show. but it might work for you (might be good enough even though not perfect).
berlinablacks2kguy has a good link to an article written by our member autopia- again, worth a try as long as you are not looking for perfection or dont mind experimenting...
