Should I get a 5" or 6" backing plate for the PC?
Currently I have 2 Meguiar's pads. The Soft Buff ones which I believe are 6.5". (not the 2.0 version).

It seems best to get a plate that covers as much pad as possible. (6" if using 6.5" pads; 5" if using 5.5" pads). However, if I get the 6" I cannot use 5.5" pads. I have counter weights for both 5" and 6".

Also, I am looking to get more pads (not necessarily Meguiar's). Should I go with 6.5" or 5.5"? Or is it just personal preference?

5" and 5.5" pads. It ends up being about personal preference.. but 5.5" pads are a lot easier to control IMHO.

DD uber pads are some of the best to be had readily.
