Default Soon to be new s2k owner

Hello there!

I'm going to be a new owner of a Black 2000 S2000 with about 60k miles on it. My buddie decided to trade with my turbo'd mazda protege but he wasn't the best on keeping the car detailed. Couple of problems... One the front bumper and lip seem to have a ton of small white specs, like the size of a pin head. Im guessing this is from small rocks and sand hitting the bumper. Is there anyway to get this looking brand new again without repainting? Its not a smooth surface either, its has a light roughness texture to it so im hoping that I can some how buff it out. Also he put some eyelids on the car and got the adhesive on the passenger side head light, and it's now cloudy... what would be the best way to clean this off? sand it down and polish and buff it out? Now to the ragtop... its dirty and off color. I was planning on buying some Ragg Topp cleaner and protectant. Is there anyway for me to get it looking new like black instead of an off gray color? I know they have dyes but I searched the forum and didnt see much about doing that. And PlastX should work on the rear window to make it clear and new? So that is isn't foggy looking.

Sorry for asking so much but one other thing maybe you can help me with. I think the car was in an accident before my friend got it ( I will be the 3rd owner) and the passenger side door is straight but isnt flush when closed. Is there a simple way to align it or should I just take it somewhere?

Anyways thanks for your time and any help would be appreciated!

oh wow is it comming with the timeattacks? if so thats good..as for the headlights u cud go the hard way and sand/buff OR you cud go with Mothers (metal) polish..yes metal polish IT WORKS..as for the bumper, the ruff surface can be delt with, but as for the chips..i think it will have to be repainted..and now on to the door..check the silver metal link thats on the body (where the door clicks wen closed) and try and used a phillips screw driver and re-align it..it should close flush..i had the same prob..cuz sometimes it gets loose and shifts out of place therefore making the door stick out wen closed..GL wit ur new s2

Yeah it comes with the time attacks! he has a set of stock rims and another set of 18inch BBS gun metal gray rims that he asked if I wanted on the car instead of the time attacks. I told him to keep the time attacks on, cause they are sexy and limited edition!

I've never really thought black wheels look good, but that's because they look dirty to me. I know it's black paint, but it always looks like brake dust to me.

Anyway, the answers to some of your questions are found in this thread . . .

As far as paint chips go, you need paint to fix them. You could try touch up paint followed by wet sanding and polishing, but it will be time consuming and tedious if there are a lot of chips. Plus, wet sanding can be tricky and result in no paint on your car if you're not careful.

Thanks, that link was very helpful. And about the rims... I have always been fond of a nice looking black car on black rims.

A lot of people are into black wheels. It's just never been my thing because I always think it's brake dust. I've never been into modding in general.

Well, I don't know about the chips and stuff, but I am currently in the process of restoring a MY '00 Silverstone I bought. Here are some of my thoughts. I used a F21 Turtle Wax product/conditioner for the leather, rubber, plastic and vinyls. It really took off the dull, faded dusty looking color for all the materials listed. I just covered the entire ragtop last night with it and it is looking practically brand new now. The tires were looking dusty and dull too, and I wiped the sides with it and now they look like new tires. Also the whole interior looks new now, even though before, it was dull, faded and dusty looking. I didn't think one little bottle can do so much. I don't know if anyone's used F21 before or similar products but it would be good to have it on your list of products to get for restoration work. Next up and last thing for me is claying, polishing and waxing and then I'll be done with restoring what was once a really dirty, neglected, fading, falling apart S to it's former glory It's like if you can't afford to get a new one, detailing & restoring the crap out of an old new is as close to getting a new one as you can get.

Sounds like a good product, where did you purchase the F21 Turtle Wax at? Just a random auto parts store?

I got it at Autozone, let me know how it worked out for you if you decide to use it.
