Default Taping a softtop for winter?

Hi all,

Usually here in Canada we have crazy winter and snow. I don't have the luxury of storying the car but want to care for the soft top. I've read all the articles on how to care for a softtop in the winter but wanted to ask a question. During winter theres no way I'm putting the top down. Whats the risk of me just applying a layer of vinyl/duct tape over the soft top to completely disallow snow/water to touch the fabric?

Thx

Please don't tape the top at all. Just put come Raggtop or 303 to protect it, it will last over the winter. In the spring, just hit it with the top protectant again and you should be good. Any adhesive on the top will probably ruin the top.

Yeah if you tape it Im sure it will leave a bunch of residue and crap on your top when you take it off.

This

I use 303 and it's awesome. I've never tried Raggtop, but lot's of folks love it too. I predict taping would be a disaster.

I've driven my car through the Canadian winter the past 2 years. The biggest thing you need to lookout for is when there's lots of "slush" on the road and salt splashes onto your top. It's fine just as long as you don't leave it on there for prolonged amounts of time. The way I cleaned it was that I got a warm wet microfiber and some quick detailer and just spray it and gently scrub it off. Followup with some 303 or ragtop, or even Meguiar's Vinyl Protectant and you should be fine.

You ever taken duck tape off of something like vinyl after its been there for a while? Yeah you definitely don't want to do that. S2000s do just fine in New York and northern snow so don't worry, just if you have a plastic window don't put it down in the cold.
Plus you don't want to drive around in a ghetto car covered in duct tape

So are you not driving the car? If not, then just get a car cover.

The duct tape would hold the moisture between the tape & roof, making more damage, as it would become soft and trust me... that sucks. I had a partially covered up soft top on a parts car and sitting snow on it for all of winter until now, and its destroyed, you poke it with your finger and it rips a new hole.
