My car is garaged a lot of times however I would like to keep the top in top condition. I currently used the porche's tequipment top cleaner but I was wandering if the conditioner is required too to keep it in top condition....Thanks!!!

The conditioner is needed to provide extra protection from water. The top is made of a tightly weaved canvas material that is water resistant but not water proof. The conditioner provides the extra seal. Without this, the top is succeptible to leaks and water spotting. To apply, mask around the entire area of the top with newspaper. Make sure to completely cover the vinyl window. Shake the Porsche Cleaner for about 60 seconds and then holding it 7-9 inches from the top, start in the center and spray towards you. Release your finger with each spray. You should put on two light coats and a third coat on the seams. Make sure you have shampooed the top first before applying the protectant. Make sure you let the top dry completely before putting it down. If overspray gets on the car, use a polish and then wax. I would cover the car with cotton towels to avoid the overspray all together. An excellent site to visit is https://www.s2ki.com Go to the S2000 faqs page and it will give you all sorts of info about protecting your car. Hope this helps!

It depends on how dirty your top gets. According to the instructions, minimum twice a year. If you park your stook outside all the time, I would treat it when you notice that the water is not "rolling off" but being absorbed into the fabric. I park mine inside the garage but drive it every day, rain or shine. Will probally treat mine every 60 days.
That's my $.02......

I've had my car only three weeks now, but, very early on, the top just behind my left shoulder acquired a long, stringy water stain from dirty water flowing back off the driver's window (and maybe the windshield washer as well). I violated one rule I've seen stated on the web site and tried to remove it with the regular car wash detergent that I use to wash the car (Meguiar's car wash) and a wash mit. No luck.

So I bought both the Tequipment cleaner and the conditioner from a local Porsche dealer last weekend. But the clerk told me that the cleaner removes the Scotchguard-like water-sealing protectant; therefore you have to apply the Tequipment conditioner/protectant WHENEVER you use the cleaner. Does anyone know if this is correct?

After less than one month of ownership I'm not ready to go through the whole song-and-dance of taping and papering the car to protect the window and the paint from the spray-on protectant. So yesterday I tried once again to remove the stain by just scrubbing a bit harder with the wash detergent and a small brush (one that, acording to the web site's instructions, does not scratch the skin when drawn across the back of your hand). Still no luck. The stain persists. AND I fear I may have scuffed the surface of the canvas slightly. (The clerk recommended a tooth brush; that probably would have been a wiser idea.)

As well, when I run clear water over the top now, it does not bead up at all in that section (while it still does elsewhere). This makes me think that both the web site's warning against using car wash detergent on the top and the clerk were correct: the protectant WILL come off without much effort.

Any opinions?

Try using amazing rolloff. It is made for removing stains and it works wonders. Just spray the effected area with the full strength fromula, do not dilute. Let it set 3-5 minutes but make sure it doesn't dry. Then try cleaning your top as normal. This should take care of the problem.

Thanks, Eleanor. I saw this stuff referenced on the FAQ page, together with the Tequipment stuff, though I've never heard of it before. Maybe it's just not available in Canada. Is that the commercial name -- "Amazing Rolloff"? or does it go under different handles? What stores sell it in the U/S.?

RoadSurfer, You can order "Rolloff" and all of the other chemicals you will ever need to keep you top in "new" condition from http://www.properautocare.com/

I think they will ship to Canada. Check out their web site.
Good Luck from the "South".......Kerry
