washing in the sun-- water spots concerns
hi all,
I live in an apartment complex that has a car wash station (hose & vacuum), but it is not shaded, and it is a typical bright n warm California summer day. I've looked all around incl. homes of family and nobody has an area where I can wash my car in the shade.
It looks like I'm going to wash my S in the sun and I'm a bit concerned about spotting and such. I'm probably going to wash in sections-- everything in front of the winshield first, then one door, then another, then the rear-- drying each section as I finish. (I'm not washing the top, it has remained under my tonneau cover since the day I bought the car
) Then I'm going to pull her into my garage to clay bar and apply the Zaino polish. (washing in my garage is not an option, unforunately.)
Any quick advice/suggestions/warnings before I commence?
p.s.-- I do have a California water blade that I'm going to use, and I'll probably use one of the Cannon/Fieldcrest towels for drying as well (I have 2 large white bath towels-- they're being washed right now...)

oh I wish I could, but I work really late and so getting up before sunrise-- esp. with enough time before sunrise to wash and then dry the car-- would be brutally early. I guess I could consider it on the weekend, but I got some date(s) coming up soon, so...
car and I gotta look our best before then.
I'll keep that in mind for this weekend tho, but I have to wash my S today. and it's like 80 degrees and sunny outside.

ok, for those of you that are wondering how to do this...
DON'T.

it's not worth it.
you have to wash one section at a time, and then it'll dry with water spots. and then you have to re-wet a little part of it later, and then wipe that off to get rid of the spots. this is tedious at best. I only did my front bumper, and that sucked.

Go to Wal-Mart, grab a few generic brand distilled water jugs (Wal-Mart makes their own). They're 58 cents each so no biggie.
Now wash your car in small sections as stated above using the distilled water. Might wanna pour in small quantities at a time. After the final rinse, wipe down.
Water spots are caused by minerals in the tap water. With distilled bottled water, no minerals means no water spots.
Hope this helps.

Just as long as you're using distilled water in the soap bucket.
1. Initial rinse with tap water.
2. wash with distilled water + soap.
3. Final rinse with distilled water.
4. Wipe down.
5. Move on to the next section.
