What's the two bucket method using both the Dirt Guard and Grit Guard?

For me the two bucket method is one with clear water and one with the suds and water. When the mitt comes off the car it goes into the clear water first. After you shake the dirt out of the mitt in the clear water bucket, then the mitt goes into the soap bucket and then on to the car. The grit guard usually goes in the clear or rinse water bucket, some put one in both. I only have one.

All that has been replaced by the Gilmore foam gun for me

as ubetit implied, the two bucket method is several possible methods-

his is the "normal" method-
another two bucket method is one bucket for the upper/ cleaner parts of the car and one bucket for the wheels and lower parts- i use a brush with this bucket.
do the wheels and lower parts first with the less clean bucket then do the entire car with the other bucket- i use a mitt with this bucket.

I LOVE my foam gun, but I still use two buckets, both clear water, to rinse the mitt

Depending on how anal you want to get about it...

I like to use my foam gun to do a prewash... loosen things up a little. I'd use the foam gun for the wash, but it doesn't have an adjustable spray nozzle.

I then use the two bucket method with the grit guards, but rinse out my mitt with the hose before I drop it in the 'clean' water. The less crap that's in either of the buckets, the better.

Also, the grit guard just sits at the bottom of the bucket to prevent your wash mitt from sitting on the bottom where all the dirt/grit collects.
