Wheel Cleaning
Absolutely, 100% you MUST buy yourself some Meguiars Wheel Brightener. It will remove every spec of brake dust off your wheels. I have never seen anything like it. I have never taken my wheels off the car and look how clean they are:

Then I would follow up with a wheel sealant like Poorboys, Wheel Wax, or Zymol Wheel Coat.

good post and good products above...
just about any non acid based wheel cleaner gets my vote. and my tips for the off the car cleaning:
1. be very careful with the wheels off the car. if you drop them onto the face they will scratch. if you can get some old carpet or cardboard for the cleaning, i find that helpful. i wash them with a good wheel brush- backs first, then fronts- then i take them to the carpet to dry (blower is good for this drying too). when i lay them on their face i do not move them except to pick them up or turn them over (dont "scoot" them on the face). after they are good and clean and well dried, do at least a couple coats of good synthetic (zaino, klasse, finish first, etc.)
2. dont ignore the wheel weels and the parts inside (suspension, etc.)- you will need a good brush for this part too. i spray a wax type product in there after the area is clean and dry to preserve and protect.
when you are finished your wheels and wheel areas will look at least as good as when you got the car!!
and if you can, shoot some before and after pics of the wheels and the wheel wells for us.

If you want to clean the wheels safly please do NOT use Meguiars Hot wheels!!
Instead use P21S Wheel cleaner
and Meguiars wheel brushes
Also once they are clean put a quality sealant on it like Klasse All In One.

I dropped one of the wheels once from my old car. There was sand all over the garage floor. This resulted in little pits all over the face of the wheel. I was really not happy after that.
