I used to work there, not a great place... but I know people and can get you a name reference if you really want a job there. Pay is low-decent but the benefits are good and it's a fortune 500 company ... but I would never work there again. Basically a data call center with extreme micromanaging ... tethered to a phone box 8 hours a day....
You will need a good resume with a similar CSR background, clean drug test, good credit (they check it), very good typing and computer skills, and go through 2-3 interviews. The job probably starts with a split shift like all geico jobs - you have like thurs+sun off for at least 6 months, and if you can do well and get on a good team, you might be able to get M-F schedule within 8-12 months.
You also must study for and pass the insurance license test, as all sales and CSR at geico have to be licensed.... so the first 60-90 days is all studying and training...

My friend's brother in law works there, so I'm going to list his name when I apply.
I'm well aware of their extreme micromanaging, a former boss of mine worked for Geico and told me they basically time you on every break you take, etc...
I have been doing insurance sales for about 3-4 years, working for brokers, like Freeway & The Insurance Place.
$17-18 hr (geico). is quite better than what I've been making.
I have had my "personal lines/broker" insurance license since 2005.
My credit is probably not the greatest, though.

then why the post if you have a friend there already?
and if you have been in sales, you are not going to like a CSR role at geico, I can tell you that
they will do a full credit check, background check, resume clean, typing test, several interviews, pee test ... they get hundreds of applicants a day .. so you best be ready on all levels
to be honest there are far better insurance jobs in san diego than this one, i would keep looking... progressive and hartford have offices here, or get into commercial lines. That's what I did the last four years and got to six figures half way through ... if you work hard enough you can make a lot of money in a commissioned insurance job. You cannot make a lot of money at geico however, unless you find 30k a year is a lot of money, which i do not

Only way to make good $$$ with GEICO is to be in management (claims/underwriting/sales) or be an auto damage adjuster.
I've been doing the auto damage gig for a bit over a year now with GEICO (was hired as an experienced adjuster).
Though I HATE my job, it acutally pays ok, the benefits are good (not great) and you can't beat the job stability (you pretty much need to lie, cheat, steal, or be a dumbass to get fired). Plus the hours are pretty good (8am to 4:30pm M-F).
Entry level auto damage adjusters make about $50K their 1st year. If you're hired as an experienced adjuster, they start you off in the mid to high $60K range for your base salary; and you have the potential to make $70-$85K depending on performance bonuses, profit sharing pay outs and OT. I've heard some experienced adjusters pull close to $90K in certain years. Last year was a great growth year so bonuses were quite fatty
Auto damage supervisors make an easy six figures.
Not to mention the company has great financial backing (Berkshire Hathaway).
I don't know about the CSR job your going for, but the auto damage folks are over worked due to the constant staffing issues (read as really bad turnover).
Some people like the job; I personally hate it due to the high emphasis on customer service
Once the economy gets better, I'm Audi 5000.......

I agree Jay .... when I was there, turnover on sales floor was 51%... staggering
customer service turnover was less, i think 30-40%, because there is obviously less stress in CSR, and it is a high percentage of women, who tend to stay in jobs longer then men....
don't forget about the GEICO 15 either ... aka the "freshman 15" that you recall from the college dorm days... let's just say they could do a season of The Biggest Loser and pool just from GEICO employees ...
but ... it is a stable job, and if that is what you want, making $30k a year with benefits, than you won't find much better in town, if you can stand the pressure ... and make sure to stay away from the fridges, vending machines, cafeteria, and party food ...
Good luck to the OP on his interview...
