The news said that they lifted the mandatory evacuation for everywhere in Poway except High Valley Road off Espola and Crocker

Was listening to some officials on the radio yesterday and they said that the difference between the So Cal fires and Katrina is that we seem to be more prepared for it.

Just have to say too that s2ki and the San Diego community have really been tremendous in offering to help each other. Stay safe out there.
I have been watching the fire coverage on the news. Given the situation, it is clear that your state and local government have their acts together. Combine that with a strong community, yall will be OK.

In contrast, during Katrina state and local government were in a power struggle, both refusing to relinquish any power, and failed to get the Federal Government involved in a timely fashion. Because of this, thousands suffered, hundreds died, and New Orleans will never be the same again - which is not completely a bad thing.

Good Luck and God Bless

I think we learned ALOT from what happened after Katrina....both at the state and federal level.

That is one thing I see, the government is actually learning from their mistakes and taking better steps. After the Cedar Fire here 4 years ago, there were lots of issues that needed to be addressed. It seems like they made some key changes but still need to work out some new issues......

Like why we had Marine Choppers capable of dropping water GROUNDED because of "red tape" involving CDF & private contracted planes/choppers. Seems the all-mighty $ got in the way of saving alot of homes. They sat for 3+ days.

OC/LA had bad winds just like we did, but were able to get numerous fixed-wing support airborne DAYS before San Diego did. Valuable time was wasted, and people will have to answer.

Still, we have had great responses from local/state/federal agencies and should be thankful.
