Things should move relatively quickly and I hope to have the car back on the road in 2 weeks, so there should be more updates from here on out.
Yeah that's true. Additional venting further back on the hood would probably do a better job of that anyway. ASM has some nice extra elements within their large duct opening that are pretty interesting:

So now that you have a giant duct where your intake used to go, does that mean you're going the ITB route too?

Well it's either that or an SOT M62 supercharger. Can't think of anything else that will fit.

Ha, no ITB's for me. Don't get too excited, just a custom intake. As a teaser and to stop the wild rumors it will be something like this but smaller and a tighter fit...

Yea perhaps it certainly looks good regardless . That should work in theory, but we will see if its required and I think of a solution if needed.

Intake shape roughed in. I will tweak fitment, weld the stack to the piping and add bracing/mounts. This is the idea though and should answer many of your questions about how the intake will fit.

That is damn amazing, the velocity stack makes perfect sense. Although I'm sure you don't need it since you have an inline filter, what I did on my original stock airbox was similar, but utilized a BPi velocity stack with a 4in filter (K&n). Are you planning on leaving the horn roughly in the same spot or moving it back slightly to take advantage of both the air coming in on the side of the radiator and the air coming in from the maintenance hole on the side? In theory, you cold run a true cold air down the side with little modification.

Not telling you to, just something I toyed with some time ago.
