SoHonda Garage. S2000 Build
Another crappy Update. The past month has involved dirty dusty manual labor so I havent been motivated to document the process too much.
I went to work on cleaning up the used exhaust. The hardness of Ti made it more difficult than expected but with a wire wheel and some elbow grease she cleaned up pretty nice...
half and half...

All done!

Like most reviews of this exhaust state it takes some adjustment of the hangers to fit well but after that shes looking pretty good.

I also go the hardline from the rad to the OEM hose location fabbed up. Homie EasyE glued it together for me(not pictured)

Next on the list was the final fit and finish sanding of the hood an spoiler...
Hours and hours of sanding, blocking and bondoing

Teaser of the final look...

I nut and bolted the entire car. Found two castle nuts loose held by the safety wire. Nut and bolt your car often especially if you are out driving at speed! Changed all the fluids got everything buttoned up and dropped it back down on its own four feet for the first time in 5 months. I set the ride height of the Ohlins to where I was last year and luck would have it my alignment was spot on and did not need to be adjusted at all!

Next it was on to prepping my "booth" for painting

If there is a will there is a way. Anyone can do this stuff at home you just have to put in the work. I did all of this in my one car crappy garage with cheap 8Gal compressor and cheap ass gun. Is it a show quality? No but it beats the alternative of not doing it at all or shelling out big coin. You learn a new skill and can take pride in the results knowing you did it all yourself, which for me is more of what its about.

Big weekend for SHG coming up. My S2000 is hitting the road tomorrow and will have a proper update with real camera pictures. I will also be busy cutting and applying the livery on the SHG DC5 Race car and heading to TSMP for its first shakedown testing.

Definitely interested to see who you like the hood and duct. I was pretty surprised with the difference when going to the Amuse hood, and your setup should have an even larger effect on front aero.
Seeing your new rear duckbill sort of makes me want to try something that looks like a duckbill but actually has a separate wing element that allows airflow around the top and the bottom of the element. My friend Graham did something similar with an EG duckbill that turned out pretty cool.
Can't wait to see that finished DC5 too! Looking forward to seeing how it does on track.

I've just read your whole build thread from start to finish. These are the types of builds I love to read about. So much detail and very technical.
Keep up the good work man, it's definitely paid off!

Okay last weekend was a big one for SHG. After 4 some odd years our first ground up race car build was ready for its first shake down and turn wheels on a track. SHG_EasyE did an amazing job and its been a privilege to be apart of the project. You may look at a car like this and think it was built in a state of the art facility with a 100k budget. But the truth is it was built in a condo one car garage. Everything from fab to machining to the vinyl livery was done by us. If we didnt have the tools or skills we bought and learned them. The only labor that was out sourced was paint. Like all of the SHG build it proves the sky is the limit if your willing to put in the hard work and dedication to make your dreams happen.
Saturday night was a late one cutting and installing the last of the livery...

We were then up early to load up the trailer and get ready for the day.

Seamus was excited...

Loading it up

In the garages.

Going out for a session...

Unfortunately the car has some issues with a steering rack component wearing out and developing play, so run time was limited. Good news is when it was running...it was real good. Baseline was at a high level with good balance. The first race is in mid June and even with the limited running we are looking to be in good shape.

Theresa, owner and driver of the DC5 is a Member at TSMP which allowed some of us to run with them as guests. So a day after hitting the road the S got some track time
Street impressions of the car were fantastic. The new ATS gearing is on point, the exhaust while drones like crazy sounds AMAMZING, the intake in vtec is louder than the exhaust o_0, and the Ohlins are as phenomenal as everyone says.

Its quite amazing how stable the car is now with the ohlins. The car now feels more like a direct connection to my inputs and I could put the car exactly where and how I wanted. I could keep things simple with a slight push or trail brake deep and back into the corner nice and loose.
The curbs at TSMP are quite tall and abrupt, but I could still use and attack them with these dampers without issue or upsetting the car. The transition from the new course into the oval used to break the rear loose a bit, but now I can barely tell the difference between the two surfaces. I am now in complete agreement with Andrewhake in that with a proper damper and a square tire, the S2000 needs at least a square spring bias. Steady state the car pushes and unless I am real harsh with lifting the throttle or trail braking as I said earlier its hard to adjust the nose of the car. My FWD civic were looser than this car now
. This was a surprise as I also re installed the oem AP1 bar that I removed last year.
I will be installing a eibach rear bar to attempt to stiffen the rear up to get the balance I am looking for. I will also say I would like to have more adjustment range in the dampers, so I will be revalving this winter. I still have the rest of the year to test but I will guess I will end up in the 700-800lb/in square relm.
On to some action shots...

I had a great time giving rides to all the SHG homies who came out to help and support the DC5

After calling it a day with the DC5 Evan took out his civic and we had some fun for a session or two...

Big thanks to everyone who came out and help out this past weekend and had positive things to say about the car. It makes all the hard work worth it.
Shout out to SHG_Claudio and SHG_Token for the media coverage.
