Honda warranty is covering the damage and a new short block is on the way!!! Woohoo!!!

If you ever need service I highly recommend Dave Fowler (service consultant) at JEH. He's taken great care of me!

Hopefully 'll get the S back Monday or Tuesday.

On a side note: This isn't my first VTEC. I've had an Integra, CRX with B16 on turbo, Civic Si (B16) on 125 shot of gas and I've never gone through 4 guarts of oil in 2000 miles. My turbo couldn't even eat oil that fast!

I think I'll take your guys advice though, I'll be checkin the oil every morning before I leave the casa!

Good luck getting her back up and running.

BTW, I check my oil pretty regular, but even this thread made me walk out to the garage and check it.

Update!

I get my car back tomorrow!!!! Woooooooooohoooooooooo!!!!!

JEH replaced the short block. The car's running and will be ready tomorrow.

BTW - the bearing caps backed off causing the bearing wear and unavoidable motor failure. The oil consumption was from blow by.

Kewlwhip, did you get your head replaced (valves, valve train, top of cylinder) or just your short block (most of cylinder, pistons, crankshaft, etc)? As far as I know, American Honda Motors Company doesn't import whole engines from Japan, just short blocks and heads. If you need both, they are imported separately and assembled at the dealership.

Did you have cylinder scoring?

Your car is the first or second F20C failure among those with the improved oil bolts. I'm adding you to the "Short Block Replacement thread" What's your VIN? How long from failure to replacement? Had you ever checked the oil before failure? su701's newer engine failed but he didn't have a diagnosis.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks to Stratocaster for pointing me to your thread.

At least for 76k miles! I'm still burning oil, so I still check it at every fillup.

JEH replaced the short block only (it was overnighted). There was no head damage.

I topped off the oil at 1000 miles (1/2 qt.) At 2300 miles the rod bearing fried. I can't remember what cylinder. The bearing fried because the bearing cap bolts had been slowly backing themselves off.

I took the car to JEH Wednesday (2/19) at noon and will pick it up today, Tuesday (2/25) at noon. That's a fast turn around!

I'll get all the details and post them for you Barry.
