HELP! My car shudders and the revs drop everytime I stop!
This "issue", as described by the author of this thread "comes and goes". It does not last. I do NOT believe it is a valve adjustment issue as this would cause continual symptoms. Badly adjusted valves simply do not come and go. Save this work for when you have a "real" valve problem. People have done this and have screwed it up. Why put yourself through this aggravation and expense needlessly. Adjusting valves is not hard but on this car, it can be "tricky".
As far as "arich's" accounting is concerned - coincidence? Or it was not the same set of symptoms.

I know that my sysmpoms become "less" noticable as the car warms up. But I can still feel the rough idle as I stop. I do now that the problem the first time was the valvles. As I adjusted them myself. They were not in the specified tolerances, but looser. As for this time, I have not done the adjustment yet. I believe also that my problem got worse when it got hotter. However, I live in Austin and it has been hot here for some time now. Perhaps I just cant remember how it acted in the cold.

If you constantly try to compensate for the near stall with your foot on the throttle, it may never be able to learn and the problem will persist.
