Default Smartire installation

Finally got the smartire system installed. I had ordered the 2nd generation smartire system with the optional remote display.

It's always a challenge to find space in the cabin to install anything, and this time it was no different. I though about putting it in the arm rest but opted for a stealthier install.

There is some space just in front of the cup holder and that's where it went in the end. The unit has a very loud audible alarm so if something comes up it is just a matter of opening up the cup holder lid and see what's up.

The amount of space taken out of the holder is minimal as can be seen from the pictures below.

The unit as seen from the driver's position:

No flash photography. The unit is backlit so very easy to read. (BTW, you can also see one of my latest convenience mod: Feet well illumination).

Seen from above. Intrusion into the cup holder bin is reduced.

Looks great.. you are a master finding space in this car. At first I thought it would be hard to see since my seat is not all the way back, but after a little experimentation I see that the position works well.

I like the footwell lighting.. what kind of fixture/bulb did you use?

I had a couple of white side markers left over from my endeavours to get rid of the stock orange markers.

They work perfectly.

In the NA car we do not have the washer switch but rather a worthless slot behind the cup holder. I do not know the dimensions of the smartire display. Do you think it will work face up in place of that section of the console?

Chris,

The LCD is designed to be read from above, at an angle from the viewer's eyes. If you install it level in the location you mention you may need to lean forward to read it. A slight tilt should fix the problem though.

Luis,

very creative! Looks pretty good, although a bit hard to tell in pictures. I'll be taking a good look at the display and the car over the next few days; I'll let you know what I do.

Thanks for sharing agian,

Ted
