Default 1999 jag xk8

I just picked up a one owner car with 39000 miles on it. It's not a S2000 and not a substitute for mine in any way. It was an excellent deal that came my way from the original owner who wanted the car to go to someone who loves cars. It's all new to me, i never thought i would go British, let alone an automatic trans car, but here I am.

Its the convertible.

Anyone have any experience with this car? Know of good forums to join? etc...I know it's British, but it's an honest car in great shape . I have no photos as I am yet to pick it up, but here I do into the abyss.

Afai remember, the j-gate is kind of terrible, and the power is okay for the weight, but other than that it is a great GT vert. with beautiful lines and suspension, and overall, reliable. The later models and XKRs are beasts.

I am big Jaguar fan and I would not buy that car. If you want an XK, buy an 2007+ model. The older XK8 offers more trunk space, but is hardly the performer you would want. The XK350 is just another league. I think the '99 may have tensioner issue with timing chain of and it's not as rigid as the later model. Beautiful yes for sure, but I think that's where it ends on that car.

The best source for Jaguar forums is "jaguarforums.com" which I frequent very often. If you get a 2007+, you'll be quite pleased. Double wishbone's all around, super rigid and tight, leather everywhere... Reliable engine and all the options you'd want in a car.

Well for better or worse I just fell into this 1999 car, 39,000 original miles, clean car, with dents , very small, no rust, patina is minor, clean interior almost everything on this 17 year old car works...sure i have a check engine light and the car will not yet pass smog and it needs a full service...i just bought plugs, radiator cap, coolant, all the filters, oil, etc...for about $250.00 and ordered a new rear view mirror for about $120, stay tuned to the jag project car!
It's no S2000 but for what it is ....really nice car to drive! real wood, leather, etc...nice almost new top, etc...
no photos but it is the eggplant color with tan interior, chrome wheels, and black top....thanks again.

Sorry, you would have to google a 99 jag xk8 to see what it looks like. there are issues and it's not a S2000, but it's allot of fun to have a project car. This car needs some tlc and thankfully it's mostly good and sound and the price was right.

You car is a good candidate for a manual conversion. There are kits available; would totally transform the car.

i thought about a manual conversion, but this is a large, heavy car, 4000 lbs, and it is nicely designed to do everything rather slowly. It handles well for it's size and weight, but a manual would be a waste of money, destroying the distinct character of the ride. Its a luxury cruiser, the XKR is another story. and the new jag is amazing.

No, for me it would be throwing money away...this is the first automatic i have bought since I was 17 and had no choice...I don't care for auto gearbox cars...but this car it just fits.

They offered the XK8 in manual in Europe. If you're not into manuals, then it doesn't matter...

I just have manuals, but this car is perfect and an automatic. this car is a project car, not unlike wheeler dealers does when they take in some neglected auto and refresh it...i am doing same, my goal is to get it back on the road, deal with years of neglect, and enjoy it for what it is. I have two other cars, I am lucky, this is a project for me.
