I have a 2001 ap1 F20c and engine is looking toast I was wondering if any one could tell me if a f22 is a good replacement and if so how much extra work or parts are needed ?

F22 is an excellent replacement because of the increased displacement and updated items Honda installed to help give the engine enhanced longevity *(ap2 retainers, ap2 oil jet bolts).

Depending on the year of F22 you find, that will dictate how much extra work you will have to do to get the engine to run.

2004-2005 Ap2 is a straight drop into your ap1 (you will need the computer from that same donor car to run the new motor because the redline is decreased to 8000rpm).
2006-2009 Ap2 engine is more complicated but can still be made to work.

for 2006+ engines you will need to replace the valve cover, and the cam position sensors from the 2006 engine with your Ap1 VC and CP sensors, as well as the cam trigger wheel + the sensor there too if i am not mistaken (from the 2006+ to your ap1 items). you will also need to swap over your ap1 intake manifold and associated EGR stuff because the 2006+ engines are drive by wire and eliminated the secondary air injection system etc.

2006+ engine needs your ap1 valve cover and associated sensors to run because the computers are based on different electronic architectures.

Other than that, they are virtually the same engine minus some tweaks here and there.

Perfect thank you, I'm looking at a 07 f22 so it will involve the extra work unfortunately, could I still run my ap1 transmission or would it be worth spending the extra grand and getting the ap2 tranny

Stay away from the drive by wire imo. Just a pita to deal with when on track.

Did this on mine when I spun a rod. Use the ap1 00 ecu and works fine. Have the modifry shift beeper set to max at 8400-8500. Been like this for about 15-20k miles. Nice having the increase in displacement.

Somewhat. I purchased a mishimoto fan switch which lowers the the temp it turns on by 10 degrees. Now it seems it's turning on at 205-210 and runs until it's under 200-205.

So in theory, could you also not use a 06+ engine and run it with KPro using the AP1 intake manifold?

are you asking a question?

2006+ engines already have the k pro compatible parts on them (if i recall correctly from my friend that did the swap). This means if you have kpro on your ap1 engine (that is needing replacing) you could get a 2006 engine, swap to a ap1 intake manifold, run kpro and be golden without having to swap sensors, trigger wheels, and valve covers.
