Every picture I try to use as an avatar returns the error message that I am not allowed to use that type of picture...... They're only .JPG. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

I don't think so. It says Image Scale On which it says will scale it down if it's too big. And odd that it would happen no matter what picture I try to use. I must be doing something wrong.

^^ yes. It probably is too big, but I thought the Image Scale thingy would fix that. I can't figure out how to get it smaller. There are some things about this Mac that I hate and that's one of them.

I had the same problem trying to load a new JPG avatar on the site a couple of days ago. The size was OK [pixels and bytes]. I converted it to a GIF file and it loaded OK.

yes, membership allows custom avatars. The default system one's are your only option unless you decide to look in to a membership.

Add the image to your personal gallery (See MyS2K, top menu item). Upload it full size, whatever you have.

Once it's up loaded and you see it in your album, click it to display the image. Click the AVATAR button on that page. It will be scaled and made into your avatar without complaint.
