I also cannot put an Avatar on my site. Says it is too large. Says I can only put a 6 kb picture. What picture has 6 kb.?? The smallest one I have is 36 kb. Do I convert this in some way? I also cannot put one in my signature???

You can adjust large jpeg images to reduce the file size. Usually you will need a secondary application designed specifically for making web graphics. I use Adobe Imageready, which comes with Photoshop. It has some "optimize" features which are very easy for reducing file size. I know there are some other freeware programs that do the same thing, but I don't know the names of them.

uppity you need to resize it you could use something like:

http://www.jpegwizard.com/

To put it in your signature you need to host the image somewhere (say your s2ki album) then use [img] code in your signature with the url to the image,

Okay... Did that. Pictures are small enough. But... Now when I try to put in as Avatar an error message comes back and says that I cannot put that type of file as an avatar. It is a .gif and another is .jpeg. What am I doing wrong? I think I might give up. And, another thing, my photo album does not show the picture, just a box with a red x?? I know I appear as an idiot, but most of the time I am not stupid

You are not allowed to upload that type of file as an avatar or personal photo

That is what happened to me, too. I got a little program called Avatar Sizer and now I have no problem at all.
