Email termination/Thunderbird help thread
I'm surprised there are no posts regarding the email service termination, I suppose part of the reason for the discontinuation is the lack of email usage I guess. I thought it might be a good idea to have one thread devoted to facilitating email backup and for any help related questions directed to Erik, any mods who can answer, and/or other members.
1. Thunderbird was recommended for exporting email from the s2ki mail servers and archiving. Tried to access my s2ki account using Thunderbird. Throws an error stating that my s2ki email account is not an IMAP4 mail server.
2. Apparently, Thunderbird can archive messages from an email account. Can Thunderbird also be used to import the archived emails to a gmail account? This way, I have access to every email in just one place. Even better - if there is a way to import email directly from the s2ki account to my gmail account for archival, that's even better, I can skip the Thunderbird middleman process.
Thanks.

Now I'm not 100%, but I think the s2ki email supports POP - I am sure I always use POP. Anyway, you may be able to import straight to gmail as here:

I'm sure I'll be corrected if that isn't right. I always used Thunderbird for my S2KI email anyway, so don't have any importing to do.

Wouldn't POP pull the emails off the server and delete them? I like to use web-based email clients (not desktop clients) using the IMAP protocol to access email for a few reasons. Using the browser allows me to access emails from anywhere from any machine as they sit in one location. Using a GUI interface desktop program uses up more computer resources and keeps the desktop cluttered, and since I always have my browser open, accessing email through the web is ideal in my case.
I'll have to look into the info in the link you posted. If that's true, I guess I have no need for Thunderbird as the middleman to transfer s2ki emails to my gmail account.
