Default Feature request: Keyword or Unique key

I often promote this board to other S2000 owners by sending them links to various discussions. Unfortunately when you paste a link to a specific thread in an e-mail it is quite long and line wraps:

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/newthread.php?a...hread&forumid=4

Many e-mail clients don't handle this properly so when you click on the link in the e-mail the browser tries to load the first line and the user gets an error.

The way I handle this on our servers is to use rules to rewrite URLs. For example, if the user clicks on a link such as:
http://www.byteserve.com.au/news/wifi
the server rewrites is as:
http://www.byteserve.com.au/news.taf?_func...il&findkey=wifi
which will then find the specific news article.

If we had a system like this either the user could assign a keyword to the thread when they write it and it would appear in the thread, or a unique key would be created by the server.

Either way, if you could get to this thread by entering:
https://www.s2ki.com/thread=eec949d024b2bd9...a4416ebc0663067
it would work much better.

Also, we could assign keywords to particular areas. I would love to be able to enter:
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/australia
and get straight to the Aus section.

The software I use on the Mac platform to do this stuff is called Welcome, but I know it's based on some unix stuff that is freeware.

Doable?

You don't have "Browse the board with cookies" enabled in your profile (MyS2000 > Edit Profile). The URL is so long because it contains your session key, s=..., that would otherwise be in your cookie. When you paste your link, remove the s=?????& part of the URL and you should be fine. The URL should just have ?threadid=??? after that and maybe a postid.

Removing the s= is the key when not using cookies. It won't harm anything to leave it in but if the links don't work...

Cheers.
