Default Flag request

Guys and gals!

First of all congratulations on a fantastic forum, there is a wealth of knowledge here and some nice people in the N Texas sub-forum.

I am based in TX, so my country flag defaults to a Stars and Stripes

However I am not a US citizen and would prefer to have a Union Jack.

Can I get a Union Jack appearing under my username and how would I do this?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/comments

TJ

If you go to -MyS2K-, under Edit Profile Info, you can change the Your Country of Residence to United Kingdom. Leave the contact info at the bottom your correct Texas address. I believe this should fix your problem.

The flags are now being generated based on the IP address you're connecting from. If you're surfing the site from the US, you're going to get a US flag.

I can still change mine by following my previous instructions. Do you mean in the next build?

EDIT: I have noticed that the flags at the bottom of the Forum's main screen are based upon IP's.

Yeah, looks like I spoke too soon. I know we were experimenting with that but it's not active currently. Disregard my previous post

Wow, why does this site get more complicated daily...

The flag under your post is based on your country of residence as located in your profile. The flags shown in the who's logged in section of the main index page is by IP address. Your country of residence information is part of your address and profile and it does mean what it says "Country of Residence". The flag is designed to show people where you are -- your location -- not your nationality. The fact you "talk funny" it's all that important to someone reading your posts. The fact you are posting from the US is. I highly discourage you from changing the flag.

Clearly I'm going to have to add yet another option to your profile for your real country of residence so it doesn't screw up your address when we print membership cards etc.

Let me make it more complex. There are also flags for England, Scotland and Wales, Isle of Man and Jersey. Seems brits reject the idea of the union jack and prefer to show the colors of their 'what ever you call it'. I will strangle the first person who posts saying they want the Texas lone star flag instead of the stars and stripes

It all started by me adding a person's country code to the profile info listing because people wouldn't fill out the location "THE MOON RULZ #1" and we wouldn't know where they were. Then I replaced the codes with a flag image to add a bit of color and now that's as useless as the location. The flag is your location so people know where you are so that when you post they can understand the context. People from well over a dozen countries post regularly and it matters.

If you change your country to something other than that of your address you will most likely not get a membership card. It will be addressed to Pakistan or wherever and we will either never see it again or will come back undeliverable.

So, you're saying this isn't a valid location? BTW, did you see the partial eclipse (of the moon) this morning?
