Highlight unread
Ok, this is gunna sound scary, but it's not really.
When I load the forum list I see a list of threads. I'm not sure if they are brand new, not so new, but have replies I haven't read, or exactly the same as last time I visited.
Here's a possible solution:
Whenever you load the forum list each thread ID, and it's number of posts is compared against a cookie (or cookies) on the viewers computer. Each thread that matches an entry and post counter is marked as 'read'. Each thread that matches an entry, but has a different post count is marked as 'unread replies', and any threads that don't match any entry are marked as 'new'.
You may however have to sacrifice a few simple luxuries like sleep to implement this one.

hehe Sacrafice? I don't get any now so what am I giving up?
This is kind of there now no? You should see yellow folders and red folders. Red folders contain posts you haven't read since the last time you logged on.
You can re-login and hence update the state by clicking the S2000Online logo.
Am I the only one that's sees the red folders?? Next time you post a reply look at the folder color inthe topic list. It should be red.
