How Come I got this email?
I got the same email that says my membership expires January 3, 2006.
I just renewed it at the beginning of this year.

I'm going to guess that this is a glitch. I believe Erik is working on installing some sort of email notification of memberships nearing the end. This hasn't existed for quite some time and now that he's trying to get it up and running, a few glitches in the time stamp may have happened. All of you still indicate "member", so if you were indeed expired, you would not be currently a member. If it were me, I wouldn't be worried about it unless my "membership" disappeared in an untimely fashion. I'm sure it'll get worked out eventually.

No, it's not a glitch, it's deep sea phishing. The email is/are bogus and fraudulent, an attempt to get you to click a link, enter your personal information and rip you off while you think it's legitimate.
In your mail program choose the menu option to show message source. Post that and I can point out how it's forged (/s2ki/forums/index.php?act=paysubs&CODE=index for example is a forgery, act=paysubs is invalid and CODE= is always a number like 01 or 00). i suspect that any link in that email you are supposed to click doesn't actually link to s2ki.com at all but to some site ending in .pl or .ro or to an IP address.
We don't send out emails unless you ask for them (in response to some action you took like registering or recovering a lost password). There are no unsolicited emails. If you didn't do something that would trigger an email then it's bogus and should be deleted as SPAM.
This sort of thing is exactly why we don't send out expiry notices or other emails. If we did we wouldn't know which are the fakes and people might get lured into a ripoff thinking the notice was legitimate.
If and when we do send email notices they will be secured in some way that will allow you to verify the source as being s2ki such as a digital signature that can be verified. Until then we don't send emails for fear they be spoofed and you should always consider any email dealing with money that you don't expect to be an possible attempt to rip you off.
