Locking threads
I just wanted to gripe -- several times now, a thread has gotten a little heated (or maybe it was just a dumb thread to begin with), and the thread is locked.
I don't disagree with this practice.
However, lately, the threads are not only being locked, but being set so that I can't even look at them. It's infuriating to see a thread in My S2000, with posts I haven't read, and get that stupid "access denied" message.
If you want to lock threads, lock them. That's enough censorship and moderation without making threads unreadable.

Threads which you can't access were likely moved to the trash bin. That's an entirely different thing than locking a thread. Threads moved to the trash bin violate site policy by their very existance (commercial threads for example) vs locked threads which is used by moderators to give certain topics a cold shower.
We don't delete threads. If we did they wouldn't show up in MyS2000 but they would also be gone forever. Insead we move them to a private forum to preserve them but at the same time take them offline.
National and Regional community forums are not moderated by us but rather by their Community Organizers (COs). They must conform to S2KI site policy but COs might have stricter limits as well. They don't necessarily follow the "no delete" rule and moderation can vary greatly from forum to forum.
S2KI moderated forums are those listed as General Interest and some of the Special Interest forums (sponsored and event related forums excepted).
As the site continues to grow less and less of the content and, to a greater extent, moderation is under our control.

Hmmm... okay Rylan. So if a thread is trolling, it violates site policy and can be trashed, and taken offline.
It makes sense and all -- I guess I've just read past troll threads, and found them humorous. So it seems like mods have only started trashing threads recently.

how do you lock threads? can anybody lock their own threads or only moderators? i saw someone who was an enthusiast lock their own thread.
i went to the edit part of a thread and did not see any options to "lock it".
thanks!

You can only lock threads that you started, other than that the moderators have
contol of the threads. IMHO they do a great job of processing the info and the junk.
