Default Proof of concept: collapsing thread view

I wrote some handy collapsing code for a project at work, then google released gmail that uses a similar function...what about for s2ki? So I did up a little proof of concept here:

collapsing thread view proof-of-concept

What do you think? This is just an example - I'm thinking that new posts since your last view would be expanded by default, there would be a switch to show/hide all, a changing graphic instead of words to do the show/hide, etc.

oh, and if the example doesn't work for you in your browser, do not worry! I have a fuller implementation of this type of stuff that is fully cross-browser compliant, even for older v5 browsers. This just happened to be a quick and easy way to show it that works in most browsers.

I like the idea, but the skin will have to be re-worked to make it look better, in it's current form, I think it's more confusing than anything.

I think we'll run into more issues with figuring out what post was edited (instead of posted) since your last visit and having to show the updated ones etc. So I dunno how well it would work for threads, but I think it's an excellent idea for the main forum listing. Personally, I wanted DHTML/CSS menus up top.

To follow a thread you have to click to open every post, that's what I find annoying about it. Right now I dont know how the concept could be improved so I would like it. That is not to say that others might find it useful, just I wouldn't

I'll quote my original post just for you :
his is just an example - I'm thinking that new posts since your last view would be expanded by default, there would be a switch to show/hide all, a changing graphic instead of words to do the show/hide, etc.
In any case, I see this as useful for closely followed threads where I don't need or want to re-read the last dozen posts. Like most of the shit in the corner
