Default Reply Button

Should the "Reply" button be renamed "Quote" or something? Seems like a lot of newbies are clicking the first Reply button they see which is usually one that actually quotes someone's post instead of clicking the big "Add Reply" button at the top and bottom of the page, and then they click "Add Reply" which results in a post containing nothing but a quote. My original thought was to rename it "Quote this post" but that might be too long. What makes the most sense to you all? Got any alternate suggestions?

I think it's overly complicating a rather simple matter that should work itself out over time if the user is active long enough.

How do other forums do it?

I do agree that it could be made more intuitive.

"Reply" & "Reply with Quote" is how most others are configured, at least the others I am on.

ClubRSX has a Quote button that says "Reply With Quote" whenever you hover your mouse over it, an icon for Multi-Quote, and an icon for Quick-reply, but no Reply button, except for a larger "post reply" button at the top and bottom of the page.

Similar to ClubRSX, Honda-tech has a Quote Post button that says "Reply With Quote" whenever you hover your mouse over it, an icon for Multi-Quote, and an icon for Quick-reply, but no Reply button, except at the top and bottom of the page.

NSX Prime has a Reply button, a Reply With Quote button, and an icon for Multi-Quote, plus a larger Reply to Thread button at the top and bottom of the page. S2KCA appears to be the same.

It makes sense how it is when you think about it, but as said thats not how most forums are laid out.

Another forum im on has,

reply, quote, quick reply, quick quote under each post. A quick reply box is automatically populated at the bottom of each thread no matter what, as is here.

The reply button doesn't quote the post, just shows that persons name (re: xxxx in the post border) and goes to full editor. Quote goes to full editor with quoted post. Quick reply and quick quote go to the box at the bottom like we have here. Using quick quote, you can quote every post in the thread if you wanted and it populates in the quick reply. I like that but probably because ive been posting there 10-12 years.

Hit the small Reply button just below the post you want to partially quote and remove the text that you want to omit from the quote. See what I did there?

Yes, but I was getting this. I have since figured out to leave the "quote" front and back
