Default Reply counter not incrementing...

I noticed this morning after yesterday's down time that the reply counter on topics is not incrementing from 0 to 1...showing 0 on new threads even after I posted a reply. Seems to increment after that?

Views counter appears fine.

The changes made yesterday include spliting the database among 2 servers. One server handles all the writes and the other all the reads. The 2 servers syncronize themselves. If your read occurs before the write server has updated then you won't see the change you just made. However if you refresh the page it's likely it will be up to date.

It's a bit annoying but not so annoying as a pig slow site.

For example, the post I just made above didn't slow up when the page first displayed. I had to refresh to get it to show. More fine-tuning will reduce this lag and make it unnoticable.

I regret to say that the 17 hours I spent Saturday working on the database was for not. Under load my experiment blew up and brought down the site. Fortunately it was far easier to reverse than implement so things are back to status quo. On the up side search now works extremely well. That is about the only saving grace.

Faster site: no
Fast and accurate search: yes

Not all bad.

I'm going to reindex the posts and topics tables for 3 letter search terms which will take several hours. This will need to wait till another day however.
