Default Search Options

First, let me say that I am glad I found a good sight to cater to S2000s that isnt filled with 16 year old kids in Civics

Here is my only concern with the sight to date. The search function has no options?!?!?! When I search, it searches everything for any of my search criteria anywhere in post body. As a previous VW owner, I can only cite the VWVortex as a reference. Their search engine allows a myriad of search tools, the most helpful of which is searching only the titles of posts and only in certain sections of the forums. Is there any way I can do this here??? Am I just missing the search options???? Thanks for the help, I look forward to browsing this site for some years to come

Search is and has been a constant thorn in our side. It is the best we have at the moment and the lack of options is not an oversight but a technical limitation we've had for some time.

Yes you did miss it

Go to the forum you'd like to search for something in. I.E. If you have questions about superchargers, go to the FI forum, scroll to the very bottom right of the page in type what you're looking for in there and it will search in just that forum alone. Always makes me satisfied with it.

No complaints here
Can you limit results to post titles as well?

The search is by no means perfect; it seems to "miss" a lot of threads. It's a little frustrating when one's trying to look for a specific thread -- i.e. when I KNOW that such and such keywords exist in a thread, but the thread just wouldn't come up when I run a search. However, I find that with a little bit of patience (i.e. do a search for both "hardtop" and then "hard top"), you will get what you need most of the time -- provided that you aren't looking for one particular thread.

One thing that I also find frustrating -- though has nothing to do with the search algorithm or the sql query that goes behind the scene -- is that a lot of users do not use meaningful words as thread titles. For example, what does "HELP NEEDED IMMEDIATELY" really mean? Or, sometimes the threads just have so many typos that the threads would never come up on a search. Of course, this is not a newspaper publisher or English literature class, but I think it'll make life much easier for everyone when the threads are properly typed up using legible format and punctuations, etc. Of course, my English isn't perfect either, but I do believe it's far from being terrible.

Just my 2 cents.
