I've designed a simple sketch for what I'm proposing to do with search. It's a big problem for you and that makes it a big problem for us. I want to get this done by end of Feb. Here are the mockups for both the search form and results.

Search Form. I've modelled it on other forum search using much the same options. I don't really want to add anything new or fancy at this point, I just want to make it work well and then we can build from there anything extra. The sketch includes a widget at the bottom to review previous and saved searches but that isn't part of the project. It's for the future. Again, I just want to get the basics functioning well before adding complexity.



Search results. Pretty basic. Just a (unique) list of topics. I know the results pictured are duplicate, copy and paste does that in reality each topic will only be listed once.

Please post any comments you have, things I missed, things I got wrong, whatever. I'm planning to get going on this ASAP.

In all seriousness, it's the relevance of the search results that creates the challenges usually, as opposed to the interface and results layout - IMO.

this is very much like several search functions i've used; all successful

will be worth the wait........i've not used the site's search in forever anyway (i use google + site:s2ki.com + date filter ftw )

if people consistently spelled thread titles properly, it could be even more efficient

high-5 to new search!

 

It must be better than what we have now so I am excited.
