I digress. Back to big, sensitive sigs.
Nah - I think anyone who doesn't like the big sigs now knows what to do

We just finished a full 65 to 72 degree F week here, but now it is back to January ........47 degrees

We are actually pretty strict on these things as some will be happy to tell you *cough* nazis *cough*.

Go to MyS2K -> Board Settings -> Display Sigs -> No

it will save you valuable real estate. You can turn off avatars too of they are too risque for your workplace.

Maybe we should only allow images in the sig for anyone that is >= a member ? I can already feel the flames...

I think that is a good idea yogi, plus i think we should legislate for a limit of number of lines of text, plus pixel size / size in kb too.

I too think you should only allow custom signatures for Members and up, but go back to the old way for guests:

Guests could display badges that were assigned to them, and could place a custom avatar after so much time or posts. IMO the custom avatar really helps to identify people way more than a signature does.

We've already had signatures limited to (I think) 7 user posted pictures (doesn't include assigned badges), and I don't see why it should be limited anymore. But I do think there should be more of a difference between members and guests.

badges and sponsored site banners and amuse car pics and what not,
i understand.

but listing every single trivial aftermarket junks on your car that is 5 times longer than your actual post,
along with bantering about how one's should die because he's not a bar honda fan,
is i think too much.

i also wish that there was some kinda control against
worthless gif animations that takes up 10 min. to load up and
pics of your monkey-beating fantasy.

i agree, we should go back to the old ways
and allow only the members to have sigs.

I remember having someone- krazik or cthree, ask me to remove a picture of my car from my signature. He said it was too large. I complied. I'm thinking of putting it back in because of all the crap in sigs today.

FF, It's quite clear that we want to control the signature problem but every time we implement some form of control we get lashed out at for being sig nazis or worse greedy bastards trying to coerce people into paying us for something they already had. A little bit of peer pressure might go a long way to resolve this problem. If the users/members don't take a stand against obscenely large and annoying sigs then nothing is going to change regardless of whatever sort of controls we try to impose.

We've already invested countless hours of labor trying to make something work but regardless people have spent more time finding ways around it. Somebody needs to protest people with oversized signatures. Up to know it's been the mods who have taken no end of abuse for it. Why don't you send these annoying people a PM and put an idiot's signature list in your signature. Get every other reasonable person to do the same and people will comply.

Our lack of success in trying to dictate basic courtesy is not due to trying. Maybe it's time for a new approach to the problem.

There is no doubt that the board has changed in the two years I've been here. It seems at times that decency has left and been replaced by "Screw you. I'll do whatever I want."

I have zero experience in these matters. This is my first import. My first modded car. My first car "club." It not just the young board memebrs either. Snips by long-time board members are also evident. Perhaps they are tired of it, too.

In any case, I'm not really affected by the sigs. Usually, but not always, the folks with big, sexy sigs rarely have anything of value to post causing me to just cruise right by their posts. Ok, I have stared at some of them.

personally i wouldn't mind admins go strict on set rules.
especially on this kinda matter.

i mean, some sites don't even allow avatars, and it works just as well.

s2ki people wanted sigs back, so they got it back.
now they are abusing it.

s2ki is a nice little break between my works,
i miss the time when it was a lot more bandwidth and work space friendly.
