I was asked to post this on behalf of another member. Not sure the reason, but he indicated he couldn't get to this section of the site.

Murph,
S2KI needs to go back to capping forums at 1000 messages. When the numbers go over that, MySQL has problems indexing (which takes time) and causes slow responses (sound familiar?).

Go back to capping at 1000? So, two things. 1. We never capped at 1000. (It was 2000) 2. It isn't an automated cap. It's done by the CO / Moderator. Hope that helps.

Oh and everyone can get to Site Info so I'm not sure why he couldn't.

Actually, I just discovered what forum Murph was talking about so, yes, I can get into this forum (see earlier post above). A number of vintage forums were capped and whether or not that was done manually (and the number of posts), the slowness problem was never a problem except when the cron job ran to reindex the databases and whatever else was in the job. The "Driver" error is still occurring sporadically so I'll just keep posting when that happens. Things are back to relative normality as of now but there is still some slowness now and then.

I keep tabs on that Vintage thread actually

The 2000 posts piece....It wasn't automatically capped, it's a manual process. The Corner used to have significnatly more traffic and we manually capped threads at 2000 posts. If you look at the Mid-A or UMW HAW thread for examples, those are still capped at 2000 posts as well.

I've been keeping tabs on when the errors are occuring and since we moved the time to late at night (or really early in the morning for East Coast people), the error rate has dropped significantly.

I get them (SQL errors) about 3 times a day or more and with the exception of one thread in Houston, they're closed @ 2000.

I know that and you know that, but I found it easier to simply post the info per request and send him the link to the post. As like any good end-user, I knew he would click the link. Unlike most end-users, I knew he would also see that he wasn't exactly correct in saying he couldn't see that section and would probably then post. :-) Ken isn't an average end-user, but he is still human (so I hear).
