nz in my case I run both adaware and spybot, and this particular tracker gets detected by spybot.

What really bugs me is I doubt a site can host a tracking program without the admins knowledge/consent.

Lude, I can't seem to figure out how to block this cookie in IE, if you have a quick explanation on how to do it that would be great.

Aq, just like Lude says, but on top of that Double Click can track accounts and passwords.

Still getting it every time I log on here.

Tirerack uses doubleclick for the banners in the tire&wheel forum. And has for the last 3 years

so some of their banners can leave doubleclick cookies if your browser doesn't block 3rd party cookies. IE has blocked 3rd party cookies since IE6.

Unfortunately we have no control over Tireracks selection of this. If it bothers you, don't use that forum or Doubleclick has always offered an opt-out cookie.

See: http://www.doubleclick.com/us/about_double...vacy/ad-cookie/

I didn't know about the opt-out cookie, that works for me, thanks.

The fact this site condones the use of trackers even if only by allowing advertisers to use them does bother me and does make me reconsider becoming a member. I'll think on it some. My first reaction was one of anger, and I am over that, but I am left feeling disappointment.

However, thanks for the response and info krazik.

pat,

Doubleclick has been around for probably a decade. Almost all websites use cookies. Doubleclick uses cookies to keep track of what sites you've visited and, in some cases, to target ads at you. I wouldn't say this site "condones" the use of tracking cookies; they're just a fact of life on the Internet. S2KI itself doesn't use doubleclick, it's coming from one of the sponsors as Krazik mentioned above. I'd be surprised if this was the only site you visit that raises a flag about a doubleclick cookie. There are also other solutions to this problem - I use a custom hosts file that essentially blocks doubleclick, and other known problem sites, from messing with my computer. You can read more about this here:

Well at least this will have been a learning experience, lol. Opt-outs, now host files... Yer I know sites use cookies (not all use trackers tho), but since installing spybot and using it's immunize feature this is the only site of the ones I visit regularly where I pick something up.

I will do some reading on the host file, just glanced at it, thx for the link!

Only in the last few days, has this "doubleclick" thing come up on my computer. I just have them blocked all the time now. Insidious little buggers, aren't they?
