Default Why lock threads on the forum?

It is in regards to the thread closed by AE about the sale of a Honda part. Is it so wrong that people wish to air their opinions and discuss the issues at hand? We should be open and clear about it and should have nothing to worry about. AE not a dig at you but a lot of threads get locked by Mods and some are justified but the last one was a discussion and if people wish to make their views known I can see no harm. You may of course not respond to it if you so wish but please don't close a thread.

I made a comment early in the thread to which you refer, and my comment was based on real life experiences of theft from a Company and or making secret profits. Whether the said person had done such is neither here nor there. Enough had been said in the early parts of the discussion for his employer, or someone in the same firm, to have sussed out the situation - presuming of course that most Honda Dealers read this Forum.

By then the damage had been done and all the later discussion was just a tit for tat exchange between differing views. I support the Mod for closing a thread that was getting nowhere and doing no one any good.

I also agree that this Forum should be used wisely and for the BENEFIT of its Members and Guests - not a rowdy house for personal vendettas or individual criticism.

The opinion given here is mine, and depite the fact that AE is my Son, would still be given in support of ANY Mod. I mention this just in case anyone decided to level an accusation of nepotism.

No smilies with this one.

I locked it as I felt it appropriate.

Having read the thread concerned, there's sufficient doubt about the seller's right to sell this property at all that
I think it was right to lock the thread.

Anyone who bought that item given the information about it's origins in this thread, might have difficulty in explaining their position if it came down to the interpretation of 'knowing or believing' the circumstances of their acquisition by the seller. Nuff said I hope!

Guys you have me all wrong. I am in 100% agreement to lock the thread where the chap is trying to sell the goods instead the thread I was referring to was the one where we board members were discussing the future merits of his plight. This one:

http://forums.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.p...threadid=201795

Listen, I am all in favour of protecting the members here from rogue outsiders too but we were only expressing our opinions on the thread. My view is that the thread should have been left open as it was doing no one any harm but did allow other interested parties from expressing their opinions. It is a democracy after all and if we can't even say what we want openly then what is the point? I am not here for a war, it is an opinion and if I am in the minority and since this is a democracy I will accept that the locking of the thread was appropriate. But all too often a thread gets locked for mysterious reasons and many members have commented on its use.

Do I make any sense?

Can I have the refund of my membership then? No need to answer the question since I know the answer.
