Airlines are allowed to require advance notice for emotional support animals, not physical service ones. Complicating both of those rules is the fact that airlines are still forbidden from demanding proof of an animal's training or certification outright, though there's a loophole for carriers who say they're conducting a "threat analysis."
^That's interesting and answers the question I wondered about. I flew with my cat Leo on Southwest Airlines round-trip from Denver to Orange County, California. I had to pay $95 to put him under the seat in front of me, each time. I could have lied and saved myself $190. He was just in a backpack that flies for free.

BTW, Leo had surgery today to patch holes in his face after he was attacked last night and I hauled butt to the ER veterinarian with him. His nose is broken and he has stitches inside and outside of his nose and face. I'm sitting with him now in the laundry room after I brought him home tonight. His face is super swollen and he's a real mess. His recovery could go well or not well if his nose bone doesn't heal. I don't know what attacked him but I'm leaning towards a raccoon or perhaps a bird of prey.

Wow, Patty. I sure hope he heals well. That was a vicious attack. I know how much you love your kitties.
Thank you, Gene. We all love our pets, so much, and me especially as a cat lady who sometimes sees her honey. I didn't think he'd survive the drive to the ER vet last night and then I was afraid he'd die during surgery. I'm finally relaxing as he's sound asleep in the laundry room. I've separated the cat waters, cat foods and cat boxes so Leo can stay in there without Atticus having to go in there, too. Cuzzi time for me.
Sorry to hear of your cat being attacked. I'm positive our cat was attacked by a bird of prey when he was a kitten, we rescued him in North Carolina from a bush, from day one he wanted to sleep under furniture only and if we took him outside he would panic and seek shelter under a bush and did not like to be exposed to the open elements. He is an indoor cat now and doing well 9 years later, we smuggled him across the border on an 800 mile road trip the year he came home.
