The carbon gearbox is wild stuff... but I wouldn't hold my breath for a road-car application just yet.

Actually, really surprising to me is that Honda hasn't implemented a semiautomatic gearbox for the S. Other manufacturers with F1 experience (BMW, Ferrari) have long since sold sequential gearboxes, and the S2000 would seem an ideal candidate for a 7-speed, what with the narrow powerband.

I saw the gear box once and it's really a work of carbon fiber art!

I think we'll see something, but probably on the NSX replacement "HSC". I think Acura will probably throw something out there too. I could easily envision an RL with a double disc, 7 speed, or SMG that everyone else has. Going to software driven solutions on everything seems to be the way.

Even though the other guys have SMG trans, that's not to say it's better or more fun than a manual. The clunk that an M3 makes when fast shifting do much to think that it'll go over 100k miles without a rebuild...

Honda is state of the art without going to dealer every other week to fix something. That's something that is important to the brand image, and I hope they do introduce some of the above, but not prematurely.

Remember the 4 wheel steering Prelude?
