Default Does anyone remember the Saab Sonnet?

I wanted to buy a Saab Sonnet. I thought it was a beautiful car. By the time that I was ready to buy, it had all but disappeared. What happened to it? Was it discontinued, or did they just stop importing them to America.

I haven't seen one in years. Does anyone know it's history?

I don't know much about the history of the car - but IIRC it was a 2-stroke V4 which probably doomed it from an emissions standpoint.

Here's a couple for you Rob. Short money too.

Saab Sonnet I was a prototype that didn't see production. Just a handful were made.

The Sonnett II started life as a two stroke, but the little 850 cc motor wasn't up to the task and Saab quickly installed a V4, four stroke and exported to the US. The Sonett II ended production in 1970 when the Sonett III took the stage. More power and a better proportioned body equaled better sales, but not enough to keep development going. the car was discontinued in 74.

The body was fiber glass and the car weighed 1785 pounds. The engine put out 75 bhp.

I'll see one on the road every once in a great while. Interesting cars. Anyone know if they were front or rear wheel drive?
