Dancing with Cars
Maybe some others have read Denise McCluggage's recent piece Dancing with Cars... in Auto Week. It was a great read....talking about the great enjoyment of driving with others on an uncrowded twisty.....top down & sun shining.
In +5 years of S2000 ownership, I've probably done this sort of tandem, fairly close-coupled driving at least 40 times
Sometimes it's only 1-2 other cars....but there have been as many as 15
on a couple of occasions. Some of the most memorable drives/roads have been in central PA and western MD/PA, as part of Fall Colors tours, where the 'pack' has been behind me as a Grp Ldr....but I've also been in the middle many times.
Here's a passage from Denise's article [driving a vintage 55 MB Gullwing in Italy]: I stepped up my pace a bit....noticed Jurgen behind me[slightly newer Gullwing]; then I tucked in to let him by and I followed. If there are rules to dancing, they are never hold anyone up and never strain to hold a pace. The dance began. Jurgen would lead, then I would lead: switching was like a twirl. Delightful.
How about you? Do you like 'dancing with cars'? If so, how many is a good number? If no, why not

I like driving in groups. Our cars are like packs of wolves ready to eat the next pavement.

Does that mean if a lone S2000 is gobbling up a twisty mountain road through the woods and there is no one else there to hear it, did it really happen?

First off, Denise Mcluggage is one of my heros. She is the type of woman all boys dream of meeting. For those that don't know, she was one of the first women race car drivers and one of the early heros of the SCCA. She owned, drove and raced several Ferraris and competed with some of the greatest drivers of the 60s.
Second, yes, I love dancing with cars. We used to do it back in the day with our British iron. Twisties, Highways, dirt roads...Its all good.
I agree with the wolf analogy and the Convoy. But I always felt it was more like flying with the fighter pilots. One pilot, one vehicle, one squadron. Cockpit open, ignition on, clutch engaged, contact! The use of the hand helds only enhances that image. "Red leader this is red wing 2 come in."

Matt, this poll does not apply to RV's in caravan pulling enclosed trailers w/ secret weapons

Jerry,That was suppose to be our "little secret".
I for one can not wait to get to a road like this and off load my weapon.

Bill,Your analogy reminded me of last year's Spring Fling. We were all in our cars at the starting point at Rick's office. We were getting ready to pull out of the parking lot in "formation". We all had our tops dropped. Granny was to my left and she attempted her radio check. Her radio was not powered on. That corrected. The car on her left pulled out, she was next in the queue. She had yet to start her engine.
She is such a trip. She was so caught up in the moment that she got ahead of her self.
Hugs to Angela, we love you.
