Masai Barefoot Technology
We are a three pair family. Deb has the "red" shoes. I have a pair of the "sport" shoes and a pair of sandals.
While we really like walking in them, I am particularly impressed by the quality of construction. The sandals are literally the best things I have ever strapped to my feet.

We spent time with the Masai at Masai Amboseli Game Park in Kenya at the Tanzania border and beneath Mt. Kilimanjaro. The Masai administer the park -- sort of. The phones were out and we just ventured off without reservations -- happened to us a lot in East Africa. We picked upo an African kid hitchhiking at the park entrance. He worked at the lodge and said he would try to get us in. Full. He hugged me and said "You're my brother." He put us up in a Masai village in a thached roof mud hut. We cooked food from dented cans on a Swiss gasoline-fired backpacker's stove we got in Switzerland earlier on the trip -- another story. (All the cans in all the stores in Nairobi were dented.) I got horrendous food poisoning that night. I wanted to go outside to puke, but there was this horrendous, destructive noise outside and the ground was shaking like a continuous earthquake. I lay in my hammock with mosquito netting with big holes in it and every five minutes a babboon would peer into my eyes or a five pound gecko or monitor lizard would bounce off my shoulder. Turns out the noise was a herd of rogue elephants trampling the village. A couple of villagers were hurt and a couple of mud huts were flattened like pancakes. Anme Marie drove back to Nairobi, we almost plowed uinto a pride of lions basking in the sun in the road (dirt), and I got a shot from a Sikh doctor with what appeared to be a syringe with a used needle. Not an auspicious part of our trip.

I have a pair of Ecco Comfort that I bought when I was in Germany and this is all I wear unless I have to wear a monkey suit. It is the most comfortable pair of shoes I own. I wear a pair of Ecco sandals and I really like them too. MBT looks interesting with unique style.

I'm not familiar with them. The sandals sound interesting - I never wear shoes. Are you going to make me Google?

I have tried a ton of sandals over the years. Ecco and others. While the Ecco was better than what I had tried in the past, the MTB was tops by far. I had them on for about 30 seconds and was sold.
Apart from the unique sole design which is the primary selling point, I am amazed by the fit and comfort.
Back to the sole design, I needed a bit of lip nibbling (my lip) before I got past the hoopla (weight loss, cellulite banishment, etc.), but the notion that the shoes help train for better balance not only makes sense, it actually works. If you have balance problems to start out with, these shoes will make you a bit more cautious at first, but most folks get used to them after a few wears and begin to notice the change in the way their legs and joints feel. They are inherently a bit unstable, so they cause the ankles, knees and hips to work a bit to find a balance point. Along the way, they seem to encourage sufficient joint adjustments and movement to build up strength and flexability. I know, it sounds like something you would see on AM cable TV, but I really enjoy walking with these things.
They ain't cheap ($230 or so), but I subscribe to the buy good things once vs. lesser things many times over. The soles on these shoes are good for a couple of years according the the makers.
They look neat and no doubt are good for your joints, etc. I wear Indian Moccasins at home all the time because its the next best thing to barefoot. They are also excellent for driving comfort in the S and give my feet a real feel for the clutch. I love 'em.
