Default Must-listen Podcast Alert

Just got an iPod (vendor swag) so now of course I'm an expert.

There is a very interesting episode of NPR "This American Life" about the April 1 closing of NUMMI, the Toyota GM joint venture. Its a look deep inside GM and presents a good picture not just of the failure of NUMMI but of GM as a whole.

"This American Life" is a pretty good show anyway and this episode is of special interest to us motorheads. It's also an interesting look at southern California labor culture in the 70s and 80s.

Got a podcast you would like to recommend? Let your fellow pod people know with a post here.

edit: for early lookers...it was This American Life, not The Story.

Two of my favorites are The Skeptics' Guide to the Universe and Reasonable Doubts.

You should also check out Podiobooks for free serialized audio books. If you like the horror genre I recommend Nocturnal by Scott Sigler. It's what got me hooked on audio books as a way to pass the time on planes.

Thanks, I'll check out Skeptics' Guide and Reasonable Doubts.

Horror isn't really up my alley.

A quirky one I recently found is The Colin McEnroe Show out of Hartford, CT. Very clever show featuring a very sharp host who might delve into Mark Twain's roll in the early history of baseball and its unwritten rules one week, great heists and cons the next, and the evolving physical nature of books the next. A recent show on "beatniks" was particularly interesting to those of us vintage enough to remember the days of Jack Karawak, Allen Ginsberg, and Dobie Gillis. The pod casts are funny, clever, informative, eclectic.

"Stuff you should know" is one of my favorite podcasts. Funny and educational.
