Default Oklahoma City Bombing

In 1995 the Oklahoma bombing occured on this date.

168 were killed and 600 were injured.

I was playing tennis in a large indoor facility with eight indoor courts when the whole place felt like it was hit by a huge force. We were across the street from the old municipal airport and I told the guy I was playing with a plane must have crashed and exploded. We ran out one of the exits but didn't see anything so we went back to playing. Soon they stopped play and announced there had been a bombing of some sort in downtown Oklahoma City. I had a hard time believing that a force like that could come from that far away as we were about 15 miles from downtown Oklahoma City.

My wife was baby sitting grandkids in Stillwater which is about 60 miles northeast of Oklahoma City. She said she had the kids outside on their patio and that the patio screen door slid back and forth from the suction of the blast. She turned the TV on to see what was going on but had a hard time beleiving a blast in Oklahoma City could have an effect 60 miles away.

If you ever come to Oklahoma City you should go to the memorial. It is very well done.

I watched the evening News tonight and heard the recorded confession from McVeigh before his execution. May he Rest in Hell. Such an unnecessary tragedy.

I have a friend on another forum who lives in Oklahoma and lost one of her friends in the bombing.

I remembered my friend today and sent her an e-mail and e-card remembering with her the loss of her friend.

It hardly seems possible that it was 15 years ago.

To this day I still have trouble understanding how this could have happened. I probably will never understand what could motivate a person do something as horrific and senseless as this.

I saw a photograph before on MSN of an older woman standing at her son's chair in the Field of Chairs. It was one of the most heartbreaking photographs I've seen in a very long time.
