Default Clicking noises when turning

Hey guys,
Not too sure what's going on here, but lately I've been hearing clicking noises when turning the car at speed (i.e. freeway onramps). The clicking sound is rhythmic, and increases/decreases depending on vehicle speed. Also, it seems as if the problem occurs after the vehicle has been driven for sometime. The sound almost resembles the sound of shaking a spray paint bottle.

Below is a list of suspension/wheel mods done to the car:
  • Tein SRC
  • J's Racing L1 (front) / J's Racing RCA (Rear)
  • Volk Racing CE28N 17x10 +45
  • EVS half-shaft spacers

I've tried a few things to help solve the problem, including:
  • replacing and torquing both rear axle nuts to 220ft. lbs
  • retightening coilover perches on both spring preload and ride height settings
  • retorquing lugs nuts to 80 ft. lbs
  • checking the rear wheels for any play (checked for bad bearings)

The noises stopped when I replaced the axle nuts, but later returned. The problem stopped after I retorqued the axle nuts last weekend, but today, it seems to have returned yet again. At this point, I'm out of ideas. I've searched the forums, and most (if not all) answers point to the rear axle nut TSB (which I've tried).

I'm also thinking that it may be a bad axle, or a bad rear wheel bearing as the vehicle needs to be driven for a little bit before the noises start to happen. However, I did check for play in the rear wheels, and everything was tight.

If anyone has ANY kind of idea what may be going on, I would greatly appreciate the help as i don't know what direction to take to solve the problem.

Thanks!!

For anyone who cares, I took off both wheels this morning, sprayed brake cleaner around all parts where there is direct contact with the wheel/hub, replaced and retorqued the wheels. Drove it around for 30 minutes with a number of onramps. So far, no noises.

Did the same on mine and the result was amazing. Had that clicking sound coming from the rear passenger wheel and tightened the axel nut by an extra 60° from factory position. Added grease to the inner part of the axel nut too.

I have been running into this same issue as well in the front on each side. I actually went as far as replacing the front wheel bearings because I figured that must be the problem. Problem went away temporarily, and eventually returned after each thing I tried.

I haven't yet tried simply thoroughly cleaning the hub/rotor with brake cleaner though. I think I will give that a try then since I replace pads/rotors often.

Did this seem to completely resolve the issue for you?

I had this same issue for 6 months and it was a hairline crack in my passenger side brake rotor. Cheap fix. Hope you figure it out!

Axle nut in rear should be 240 + 60 degrees and it should be done with a small amount of grease on the face of the nut only.

For me I had this same issue and I replaced/retorqued axle nuts and replaced wheel hubs and bearings and it fixed it. Been good for a couple years since then. I feel your pain, I nearly went insane before getting it fixed.
