Default Advice needed: Theft and Parking in Ft. Lauderdale Area

I may be moving to Ft. Lauderdale, and I wanted to get a convertible, but with all the posts about vandalism and theft, I'm wondering if it's such a good idea. For example, would any of you feel uncomfortable parking your S2000 on the street while you are out for dinner (like in the Las Olas area?) At work and at home, the car will be secure, but otherwise it will be on the street.

Granted my perceptions of the crime level is somewhat exaggerated from reading this forum, but I was just interested in others impressions. Thanks.

Sure why not? A lot of us go out to the beach with our convertibles. It's no big deal. You also gotta remember, there are alot of other drivers down in Florida with a lot more money and better cars than us. Dont' worry it's good, plus Ft. Lauderdale's a pretty safe place.

Oh only thing you will have to worry about more is maybe door dings or crazy ass drivers!

Its just like any large metropolitan area in the US. Just use your common sense... Sure there will always be haters running around looking to mess with your car but unless you plan to live in a glass bar, using your common sense is the best deterant against stupidity.

What Mav says is true... Some places are better than others. We don't have a lot of street parking here. Most of the bigger entertainment/nightclub areas have some form of security and parking garages.

I used to have to park my car outside all the time at my old house and I never had a problem. I guess it all depends on how lucky or unlucky you are!
