Any tracks in the area?
Hey guys,
I am new to south florida and to this forum (a great one, BTW). I was wondering if any of you know where i can take my S to get a few laps under my belt.
I am not necessarily looking to compete at the moment, but i just want to get the monkey off my back.

I'm probably not the best person to answer this, but generally autocross tracks tend to be more short and fast runs with a lot of sharp turns, slaloms, etc. Speedways generally have longer runs, give you he chance ot use the higher gears, higher top speeds, less sharp turns, (usually) no slaloms, etc.
A large group here autocrosses and/or races... CoralDoc, rateds2k, KeithD, sonic, etc. Contact one of them and they can give you more useful info. There should also be recent threads giving some more details...

Welcome to the board.
There are several ways to get some seat time, autocross or HPDE (High Performance Driver's Education).
Autocross is slower speed (~60 mph max) and is a timed event where you navigate a course set up on a parking lot or airport runway. Each run lasts for 30-70 seconds and you usually get 3-5 runs per day. Some clubs offer autocross schools, and then you get instruction plus more seat time. Autocross is pretty inexpensive - about $20-40 per day. It's a great way to safely learn the handling limits of your car.
HPDEs are high speed events (up to 125 mph in the S2000) held on race tracks like Sebring, Homestead and Moroso. The goal is to have fun and to safely explore the limits of your car. There are rules about passing (in the straights only) and if you are new, an instuctor is provided for you (for a small fee). These track events cost around $300 per day + $50 for an instructor. You get a lot of time on the track (3-4 hours) and you wil be exhausted by the end of the day.
Here are some links:
Equipe Rapide Sports Car Club - Miami/Fort Lauderdale
Gulf Coast Autocrossers - Fort Meyers
Ecurie Vitesse Sports Car Club - Florida Keys
Chin Motorsports - HPDEs in Florida
Porsche Club of America - Gold Coast Region - Autocross and HPDEs
